Business text messaging or SMS Marketing messages are sent from “short codes” or “long codes”. These codes determine the suitability of the message that the sender is trying to send. Short codes are typically 5-6 digits sender ID while long codes are 10 digits sender ID. This can be associated with only one sender, or shared across multiple senders.

As for short code, usually senders are required to include their company’s name or website for authentication purposes. It is compatible to messages such as notifications, alerts, promotions, reminders, verifications, etc. However, long code does not require company’s name or website as it uses local number. It is compatible to messages that requires reply from your respective recipients such as real estate, insurance, B2C industry, etc.
